Quantopian robinhood

Quantopian team gave very little heads up to the community before shutting down their service. Curious what is the play here. Seems like Robinhood would put their service behind their Robinhood Gold and provide it with direct application of strategies on your portfolio.

Wonder what their new roles are. If Robinhood was going to build out a backtesting/research environment, why didn't they just acquire Quantopian's? Quantopian's founding idea was to apply the concept of crowdsourcing to investment management. Crowdsourcing has yielded impressive results in a variety of domains, but investment management turned out not to be one of them. The Robinhood spokesperson said “several” Quantopian employees, making up a majority of Quantopian’s headcount, would join Robinhood’s product and engineering teams later this month.
